CMS 121 inhibits fatty acid synthase (FASN) in neurons, reducing the accumulation of lipid peroxidation byproducts that increase with aging and oxidative stress. By reducing this process, CMS 121 preserves mitochondrial function and synaptic integrity. It also modulates the mTOR pathway toward autophagy — cellular cleanup processes that decline with age.

Aged Mouse Cognitive Rescue
CMS 121-treated aged mice showed significant improvements in memory and learning tests, associated with reduced markers of lipid peroxidation and improved mitochondrial function in hippocampal tissue. The effect was comparable to caloric restriction in some parameters.
