BPC-157 (Body Protection Compound-157) is a pentadecapeptide first isolated from human gastric juice in the 1990s by Dr. Predrag Sikiric and colleagues at the University of Zagreb. The research team was investigating compounds naturally present in the stomach that might protect the gastrointestinal lining. They identified a 15-amino-acid sequence — BPC-157 — as particularly potent in its protective and regenerative effects. BPC-157 works through several parallel pathways.
